AN ICONIC DESIGN

The I Love Hackney brand has been in use since 2006, when it was launched as a campaign in response to a claim from Channel 4 that Hackney was the worst place to live in the UK. We’ve come a long way since then and the brand is still in use to encapsulate and express that sense of pride that we all feel in Hackney. It is, in effect, our civic pride and resident engagement brand.

Variations

We have used our I love Hackney across a number
of important campaigns campaigns

More recently we have used the brand to highlight awareness and community cohesion issues such as an LGBTQ+ version, a women’s rights, celebrating the suffragette movement version, a European Union version for the NHS in Hackney as a thank you to frontline health workers.

I Love Hackney NHS

During the 2020 world health pandemic the National Health Service played a critical road in dealing with
COVID-19. We developed our own Thank you I love Hackney badge to acknowledge the commitment and dedication of our NHS colleagues to saving lives. The badges were sent on the NHS Hommerton Hospital to distribute amongst the staff.

I Love Hackney Carnival

Hackney Carnival optimises the civic pride Hackney has a place to live, work and visit. Hackney Carnival brings over 80,000 people together from Hackney, London, the UK, and even other countries around the world, on one day to celebrate the borough’s cultural diversity. Over the years, we have adapted the visual style of the carnival brand to include a bespoke I Love Hackney button badge that we can hand out over the day to carnival goers.

I Love Hackney Pride

The LGBTQ+ I Love Hackney logo is probably the most well known and seen version we have. We have used this version for a number of years as part of our equalities and inclusion work, and normally forms the centre point for our procession in the annual Gay Pride parade.

I Love Hackney Parks

Parks and green spaces in an urban environment are vital to the wellbeing of city dwelling citizens. Hackney has over 20 Green flag parks and green spaces, which is a real asset to the borough. The I love Hackney parks design has been used for the Olympics on Hackney Marshes, and in resident community engagements looking at how the Council and it’s citizens want these spaces now and in future.

I Love Hackney

EU

Despite nearly eight in 10 people in Hackney voting to remain in the European Union in 2016, the UK has now left the EU. But our EU citizens will always remain one of the best parts of our borough.

Whether it is our neighbours, nurses, teachers, our friends or colleagues, you will remain an important part of what makes London the best city in the world. Hackney loves you, and we made this version to show the COuncil’s support to our EU citizens.

I Love Hackney Digital

The digital I Love Hackney was created to support the digital Shoreditch festival. More recently we have used the digital version on a number of our internal digital and IT related work.

I Love Hackney Olympics

To celebrate London winning the Olympics and Paralympics back in 2010, we created a limited edition gold I Love Hackney version. These were supplemented by five further olympic colour versions which were reversed out of the Olympic colours.

I Love Hackney Mayors Civic Awards

The Mayor’s I Love Hackney civic awards are held annually and it recognises, celebrates and rewards the special people of our borough, who have demonstrated great civic pride in our borough, and all those who live in Hackney. Based on a public vote, residents and businesses can nominate people who they feel have gone that extra mile for their communities in the borough.
